Timeline
Depending on your year at Northwestern and how much time you've spent in Women in Business, the type of events you'll see are very different. We host an educational series for all new members, but we also have deep dives, recruitment preparation and assistance, general skills, projects, networking opportunities, and mentorship from upperclassmen.
Educational Series
The educational series provides all new members the chance to explore a variety of the fields of business before choosing to narrow down interest in specific industries. The educational series is a combination of exposure to various industries, general events with existing WIB members, and social events.

Deep Dives
Meant for members returning to Women in Business who have been through the educational series and have had exposure to various industries. We will go into much more detail about the ins and outs of our functional group industries (consulting, finance, marketing) to gain a deeper understanding into what people in these industries do and how to prepare for recruitment into these industries. This includes perspectives from current Northwestern students and alumni who have actually worked in industry and can give an honest and open account for what the day-to-day is like.
Recruitment Assistance
We recognize that fall quarter, particularly for upperclassmen going through internship and full-time job recruitment, can be particularly busy. Our two biggest functional groups (consulting and finance) recruit in the fall, and we want to be there to help! Instead of having to come to weekly WIB events, members going through recruitment can get unlimited support from the WIB Executive Board and upperclassmen WIB mentors through scheduled drop-in office hours, resume/cover letter edits, coffee chats, etc. If you're interested in a field we don't feel comfortable helping you with, we'll find the resources for you who can answer your questions. You name it - we're here to support you!
General Skills
This is a great time to pick up on basic business skills that firms expect you to have but you don't actually learn anywhere! Possible topics include:
- Intermediate and Advanced Excel
- PowerPoint
- Data Visualization
- Photoshop
Recruitment 101
A great follow up to the general skills picked up in winter quarter, Recruitment 101 is meant for our newer and younger members to go through the ins and outs of recruitment preparation. Possible topics include:
- Resume and Cover Letter Workshops
- Interview Skills
- Networking 101
- How to dress for an interview
- Coffee Chats and Informational Interviews
- Firm Research
Networking Opportunities
Members have the opportunity to attend exclusive networking opportunities with firms ranging across all industries such as Goldman Sachs, McKinsey & Co, and Leo Burnett. Whether the firms bring in speakers, host site visits in Chicago, or join in on panels, firms will couple with Women In Business to educate our members on specific industries while making connections for networking. Many of these opportunities will be exclusive to WIB members!
Mentorship
At some point, WIB members will stop needing our assistance and will be able to give back to younger and newer members. We will pair WIB members with experienced upperclassmen mentors to ask questions and get assistance on anything - personal and professional!
